Urgent plea by HaGaon Rabbi Chaim Ozer of Vilna for assistance of persecuted Torah scholars in Russia! The handwritten and signed letter is dated on the eve of Rosh Chodesh Adar Rishon, 1924. In this letter, Rabbi Chaim Ozer describes the dire situation faced by yeshivas in Russia due to the rising influence of communism several years before (in 1918). Many students were forced to flee to Poland, and the yeshivas were threatened with closure. In the postscript of the letter, Rabbi Chaim Ozer is asking to appeal to the hearts of ”Baron Edmund Rothschild and other outstanding philanthropists” to come to the aid of the Torah scholars who were facing persecution and hardship in Russia.
