The Shulchan Aruch of R’ Mendele of Ziditchov ZY”A! Apei Ravrevei — Shulchan Aruch Even HaEzer with its nos’ei keilim, together with a separate volume of the chiddushei HaTaz. Printed in Ostroh, the title page bears the year 1816, though from the haskamos it is evident that the printing was already in 1806. On the forzatz appear significant ownership inscriptions: “…Zeh ha’sefer shayach l’harav ha’tzaddik ha’mefursam… b’nashak Moreinu HaRav R’ Meir Eichenstein shlit”a m’k’ Kashoy…” On the sha’ar appears his signature. This is the Rebbe of Kashoy, who later became Rebbe in Ziditchov (mentioned with great honor in Shu”t Levushei Mordechai, 1929). His son was R’ Yitzchak Eizik Eichenstein of Kivashd ZT”l. Another inscription reads: “…Zeh ha’sefer shayach l’harav ha’tzaddik… Moreinu HaRav Menachem Mendel Eichenstein m’k’ Mikolaiev ha’samuch l’Lvov…” This is the heilige R’ Mendele of Ziditchov ZY”A, father-in-law of the above R’ Meir. This inscription appears to date from his youth, when he lived near his father-in-law R’ Chaim Avraham of Mikolaiev ZY”A (son-in-law of R’ Meir of Premishlan). R’ Menachem Mendel Eichenstein of Ziditchov R’ Menachem Mendel Eichenstein of Ziditchov (1840–1901) was a gaon, kadosh, and mekubal Eloki, third in the Ziditchov shalsheles. It is told among chassidim that at his birth, R’ Menachem Mendel of Rimanov appeared to his father in a dream and instructed him to name the child after him so that he should have a “zecher tov ba’olam.” His father, the Mahari”a, had himself been born from a berachah of R’ Menachem Mendel of Rimanov, who had blessed that he be an “or ha’olam.” He was famed for his extraordinary memory; he would hear long derashos from his father and immediately repeat the entire substance by heart. He served as Rav of Mikolaiev in place of his father-in-law. In 1884 he began serving as Rebbe after the petirah of his father and brother. Among his seforim, which reveal his greatness in Toras HaNistar, are Likutei Maharam, Pardes Menachem on the taryag mitzvos al derech haKabbalah, and others. The sefer is adorned with haskamos from the tzaddikim, the Kedushas Levi and R’ Betzalel, son of the Meir Nesivim, ZY”A.
