A Handwritten Letter of Recommendation from Rav Avraham Yitzchak Bloch, Av Beis Din of Telz — Elul 1930 A warm, personal recommendation penned in the handwriting of Rav Avraham Yitzchak Bloch, son of Rav Yosef Leib, Av Beis Din of Telz — addressed to Rav Yosef Carlebach of Altona. The letter concerns a bochur who, due to legal restrictions, could no longer remain in Lithuania. Rav Bloch turns to Rav Carlebach with a heartfelt request that he be taken in and helped find his footing. Dated 21 Elul 1930. Rav Avraham Yitzchak Bloch (1890–1941), one of the gedolei Lita, succeeded his father as Av Beis Din of Telz and Rosh Yeshiva. Under his leadership, the Telz yeshiva flourished until the war. His Torah later appeared in Shiurei Rabbeinu MehaRai miTelz on several masechtos.
