“Kol Kiyumah B’Sakanah Ayumah” — A Plea to Save Slabodka Yeshiva --from the Rosh Yeshiva, Rav Yitzchak Isaac Sher (1930) A powerful rescue letter from Rav Yitzchak Isaac Sher, Rosh Yeshiva of Yeshivas Knesses Yisrael – Slabodka, addressed to Rav Yosef Carlebach of Altona. He writes with urgency and pain that the yeshiva’s very existence is hanging in the balance: “…kol kiyuma b’sakanah ayumah…” — its entire existence is in terrible danger. Dated 25 Menachem Av 1930. Rav Yitzchak Isaac Sher (1875–1952), a leading figure of the Gadlus Ha’adam movement, son-in-law of the Alter of Slabodka, and talmid of Rav Boruch Ber Leibowitz, led the Slabodka yeshiva in Kovno. After the war, he re-established it in Bnei Brak.
