Kodesh Kodashim! — Ksones Bad kodesh---The Cotton Shirt of the Satmar Rebbe ZYA”A! A holy white cotton shirt worn by Rabbi Yoel Teitelbaum ZYA”A. Fine cotton. Unassuming. Personal. And embroidered upon it: JT — the initials of his holy name. Among elder chassidim it was well known that even on the garments of Maran HaKadosh the Rabbi Chaim Halberstam it was customary to embroider the initials CH — so that garments should never be exchanged. Specifically in Latin letters — for places where it was not appropriate for matters of kedushah to appear otherwise. And about such garments, the Pri Tzadik writes (Mishpatim I): “The garments of a talmid chacham are like the garments of the Kohen — holy garments for honor and glory. Through wearing such garments, one becomes worthy of honor and glory. Likewise, the garments of Shabbos…” A simple shirt. A garment worn close to the Rebbe himself!
