Kuntres Teshuvah of the Gaon R’ Shlomo Zalman Ullman, Baal Yeri’os Shlomo  To His Talmid R’ Isser Toiber — Likely Unprinted A kuntres teshuvah in halachah from the gaon ha’adir R’ Shlomo Zalman Ullman, Baal Yeri’os Shlomo, addressing two practical matters: the kashrus of a Sefer Torah, and the kashrus of a goose whose feathers had fallen out. Written to his talmid, the gaon R’ Isser Toiber, Dayan of עיר חדש. Makove, 1857 [?]. It appears that this teshuvah was never printed! . R’ Shlomo Zalman Ullman — Baal Yeri’os Shlomo R’ Shlomo Zalman Ullman — Baal Yeri’os Shlomo R’ Shlomo Zalman Ullman (niftar 1863), among the gedolei ha’dor, was born in Ansbach to his father and Rebbe, R’ Shalom Charif, Baal Divrei R”Sh. He married the daughter of R’ Bunim Eiger, Av Beis Din of Mattersdorf (brother of R’ Akiva Eiger). Shortly after his marriage he opened a yeshivah in Ansbach. In 1823 he was appointed Av Beis Din of Rednik, and three years later became Av Beis Din of Makove where he served for thirty-eight years until his petirah. The Mahar”i Asad described him in glowing terms: “Harav ha’gaon amiti, nezer Yisroel, v’kadosh v’tzaddik nishgav b’nashak… chemdas Yisroel, ish chai v’rav pe’alim mikabtze’el…” He corresponded extensively with the gedolei ha’dor, including the Chasam Sofer, the Ksav Sofer, and Mahar”i Asad, who addressed him with great respect (see Shu”t Chasam Sofer, vol. IV siman 12; vol. V siman 91, and others). Among his talmidim were R’ Amram Blum, Baal Beis She’arim, and R’ Aharon Shmuel Asad (son of Mahar”i), among others. R’ Isser Toiber R’ Isser Toiber (1823–1904), talmid of the Chasam Sofer, served as Dayan in עיר חדש . He authored Ra’anan Ezrach on the history of the Rambam (Pressburg 1862).
