Yekar Metzius —VeTzivשh HaKohen, Sadeh Lavan 1823/4 – First Edition Vetzivah HaKohen — chiddushim of the gaon ha’kadosh R’ Shmuel HaKohen of Stephin, together with Torah he heard from his Rebbe of Koretz, from his father R’ Naftali, and in the name of the Maggid of Mezritch and others. Printed in Sadeh Lavan, 1823/24 — first edition. The gaon ha’kadosh R’ Aharon Shmuel HaKohen of Stepin (1740–1814) was a gaon and kadosh from a lineage of kedoshei elyon, tracing back to the Baal Semichas Chachamim and the Maharal of Prague. He served as Rav in Stephin, Yampoli, and ultimately in the kehillah of Sadeh Lavan. He was a talmid muvhak of the heilige R’ Pinchas of Koretz ZY”A. During his lifetime he printed Korei MeiRosh on Midrash, with the haskamah of the Kedushas Levi of Berditchev. After his petirah, his brother brought Vetzivah HaKohen to print. A Sefer of Exceptional Rarity This sefer is one of the rarest of early Chassidic printings. From the Jewish press in Sadeh Lavan, only a handful of seforim were ever printed!
