Heartfelt Brachos from the Melitzer Tzaddik A warm, deeply personal letter penned by the hand of Rabbi Menachem Mendel Horowitz of Melitz HY”D, filled with flowing brachos for zera shel kayama and abundant yeshuos, sent in honor of the wedding of the granddaughter of the chassidic philanthropist R’ Avraham Frenkel. The tone of the letter is unmistakably that of a Melitzer tzaddik—gentle, heartfelt, and overflowing with bracha for simcha, continuity, and a bayis ne’eman b’Yisrael. • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • Rabbi Menachem Mendel Horowitz of Melitz (approx. 1883–1943) was the fourth in the holy Melitz dynasty. In his youth he married into illustrious lineage— a granddaughter of the Rabbi Baruch Teomim-Frankel (“Baruch Taam”), from the Teomim family, and a descendant of the Rabbi Yechezkel Shraga Halberstam of Shinev. He was exceptionally close with Reb Chana Halberstam of Koloshitz HY”D. So strong was the bond that whenever the Koloshitzer Rebbe came to Melitz, Rabbi Menachem Mendel would have him conduct his tish in his own beis medrash, in his presence. After the passing of his father in 1916, he assumed the rabbanus of Melitz. He led his kehillah with warmth, humility, and quiet kedushah until he was murdered al kiddush Hashem by the Nazis in 1943. This letter captures that Melitzer heart: soft words, big brachos, and the quiet power of a tzaddik wishing generations of Torah, simcha, and continuity for a Jewish family.
