“Shema yekadmenu acher” — An urgent note to acquire a first edition Noam Elimelech From the ksav yad of R’ Yidele of Dzikov A brief, urgent letter in the ksav yad of R’ Yehuda’le Horowitz of Dzikov, written on Erev Shabbos Parshas Shemos: “…I inform you that it is possible to purchase here the holy sefer Noam Elimelech, the first printing (Lemberg 1788), for five hundred lira. It is proper that you come as soon as possible — shema yekadmenu acher…” Few lines, but they speak volumes. The well-known segulah and the extraordinary chashivus attributed by tzaddikim to a first edition Noam Elimelech is clearly seen here in practice. A tzaddik himself, upon hearing that such a copy was available, wastes no time and urges immediate action — lest someone else merit to take it first!
