Autograph Kuntres of Derashos — R’ Yirmiyah Lev of Ehel Written in the 1860s — entirely in his ksav yad kodsho A handwritten kuntres titled “Derush asher amarti b’k’k Ehel”, from the famed gaon R’ Yirmiyah Lev Av Beis Din of Ehel. The contents appear to include several derashos and inyanim, not one continuous piece — all in his own handwriting. R’ Yirmiyah Lev (1811–1874) was among the great geonei Ungarin. Son of the gaon Baal Shaarei Torah, he received semichah from the Maharam Bennet at the age of seventeen. In 1844 he was appointed Av Beis Din of Magendorf. In 1851 he was offered the rabbanus of Mattersdorf, but before it came to fruition he was called to assume his father’s place in Verbo. After the petirah of the Yismach Moshe, he was appointed to the rabbanus of Ehel, where he established his famed yeshivah that became a tel talpiyos, and he was widely known for his shiurim. From his Torah were printed Divrei Yirmiyah on Rambam, Shas, sugyos, and derashos. Notably, when compared to the printed volume of his derashos (Satmar, 1934), this derush does not appear there. He was described by R’ Hillel of Kolomea as: “ha’gaon hagadol ha’mefursam… tzaddik yesod olam…”
