Divrei Nechamah, Berachos, and Havtachos L’Yeshuah v’Rachamim Autograph Letter of R’ Moshe Elimelech Briah of Dombrova ZY”A An autograph letter from R’ Moshe Elimelech Briah, Admor of Dombrova ZY”A, to his mechutan, hanagid he’chassid R’ Avraham Chaim Frenkel, following the sudden petirah of their daughter. From the very opening lines, the tone of the letter is one of deep nechamah, spoken from heart to heart. He writes (Parshas Vayevarech Osam Moshe): “…V’gamarti b’da’ati she’kach tzarich lihyos nigmar etzleichem, she’bitchem tiheyeh chashuvah lifnei Hashem Yisborach k’korban l’chaper, v’yihiyeh lah tov sham…” He continues with flowing berachos: “…Tizku l’rov berachos, v’sova semachos, v’shefa yeshuos, b’rov hatzlachos u’shleimus u’brius…” At the close of the letter, Rabbeinu turns to his son, the gaon ha’tzaddik R’ Yitzchak Elazar (son-in-law of R’ Avraham Chaim), and writes with fatherly warmth: “…Bni yekiri, chazak v’ematz v’al tira v’al teichas, v’Hashem Yisborach yiheyeh b’ezrecha b’zechus avosecha ha’kedoshim ZY”A. V’hineni mevarech oscha b’lev tahor v’same’ach, divrei avicha ma’ater ba’adcha u’metzapeh l’chol tov…” • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • R’ Moshe Elimelech Briah of Dombrova R’ Moshe Elimelech Briah Unger, Av Beis Din of Dombrova (1853–1917), was an ish Elokim kadosh and a well-known baal mofes. In his youth he was mis’tofef b’tzel of the Divrei Chaim of Sanz, and after the petirah of the Divrei Chaim he remained close to his son, the Rebbe of Shinova. He served as Rebbe in Dombrova in the place of his forefathers. During the years of the World War, he came to the city of Kashoy, where he became known as a po’el yeshuos. In addition to his hanhagah in kedushah, he was deeply engaged in shakla v’tarya in halachah with great חריפות and בקיאות, corresponding with the gaon haploi the Baal Harei B’samim, who addressed him with great honor: ”..ברכתי תעלה לראש כבוד ש”ב ידידי הרב החסיד המפורסם החריף ובקי פרי צדיק בנש”ק כש”מ משה אליקים בריעה ני' יושב בשבת תחכמוני ק”ק דאמברווא יצ”ו..” Rabbeinu descended from a distinguished lineage of tzaddikim: his father R’ Yisroel Elimelech of Zabna, son of R’ Yosef, son of R’ Mordechai Dovid of Dombrova; and through his mother he was a grandson of R’ Avraham Horowitz of Shendishov, from R’ Yaakov of Melitz, son of the Rebbe of Ropshitz (see Ohalei Shem).
