“Lishmo’a U’Lehashmi’a Ach Tov!” A Ksav Yad Kodesh Letter on Tzedakah from the Tzaddik of Tshechinov ZYA”A! A sacred letter written entirely in the ksav yad kodesh of the heilige Rabbi Simcha Yissachar Ber Halberstam ZYA”A, author of Divrei Simcha of Tshechinov — bearing his holy signature. Written on Monday, Parashas Emor, 1909, to his relative, the chassidic gaon R’ Yosef Moshe Halberstam z”l. In this heartfelt letter, the Rebbe informs his relative — who was then residing in Eretz HaKodesh — that he personally interceded on his behalf with the Nasi of the Kollel to increase his support. He adds that he is sending funds and asks him to distribute the money for tzedakah according to an enclosed list. A letter of achrayus. A letter of tzedakah. A letter of Eretz Yisrael! Then the Rebbe’s holy yearning bursts forth in a brachah from the depths of his heart: “Hashem Yisbarach should grant us to hear and to share only good and kindness all our days — until we merit to behold b’shuv Hashem es shivas Tzion, speedily in our days!” He signs in his holy hand: “Your friend who seeks your good, HaK’ Simcha Yissachar Ber Halberstam” The Recipient of the Letter The recipient was the distinguished chassid R’ Yosef Moshe Halberstam z”l, son of the gaon hatzaddik R’ Simcha, son of the gaon hatzaddik R’ Moshe Yosef of Zbarov zt”l — brother of Maran the Rabbi Chaim Halberstam of Sanz ZYA”A. He was among the great chassidim of the heilige Rabbi Yechezkel Halberstam Mshinive ZYA”A. In his later years he ascended to Eretz Yisrael, where he served as the trusted representative of the Sanzer tzaddikim for all matters relating to the distribution of funds to the poor of the Holy Land.
