Geulas Yisrael – Ostroh, 1821 – Chassidus First Edition First edition of Geulas Yisrael, a collection of Torah and Chassidus from the Baal Shem Tov HaKadosh and his talmidim, compiled and explained by Hagaon HaKadosh Rabbi Yehoshua Avraham of Zhytomyr. Ostroh, 1821. This landmark sefer contains some of the earliest teachings of the first generations of Chassidus to appear in print. Many of them were heard firsthand by the compiler from the great tzaddikim themselves, including the Maggid of Mezritch, Reb Pinchas of Korets, Reb Baruch of Mezhibuzh, his brother the Degel Machaneh Ephraim, the Kedushas Levi of Berditchev, Reb Aharon of Zhytomyr, Reb Shalom of Prohobisht, and others. The first sefer ever printed containing Torah from Reb Pinchas of Korets! The sefer contains two handsome manuscript glosses by Rabbi Yitzchak Crispin, author of Shmo Yitzchak, one of the prominent chachmei Turkey and son of Rabbi Yehoshua Avraham Crispin, author of Vayeshev Avraham. • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • A Segulah for Yiras Shamayim! In his introduction, the mechaber writes of this sefer: ”...ידעתי גם ידעתי שאלו הדיבורים הקדושים, יעשו רושם בלב ישראל, להיות מתהלכים את השם בלב שלם ובאמת...” A Sefer Printed with Heavenly Approval The mechaber further relates that while preparing the sefer for print, he experienced an extraordinary event that clearly demonstrated to him that it was the will of Heaven that the sefer be published. He immediately related the incident to several tzaddikim, who encouraged him, saying: ”... הנה זה מן השמים הוא, על כן חזק ואמץ בעזה”י...” One of the earliest and most important anthologies of the Torah of the Baal Shem Tov and the first generations of Chassidus.
