Haggadah Shel Pesach Ma'aleh Beis Chorin — Amsterdam, 1781. First Edition — With Map of Eretz Yisroel Ma'aleh Beis Chorin, a richly illustrated Haggadah Shel Pesach printed according to both the Ashkenazi and Sephardi minhagim, accompanied by peirushim from Rabbeinu Moshe Alshich, the Maharal's Gevuros Hashem, Olelos Ephraim of the Baal Kli Yakar, explanations on the piyutim Az Rov Nissim and Ometz Gevurosecha, and additional commentaries. Printed by Proops in Amsterdam, 1781. First edition of Ma'aleh Beis Chorin. In addition to its beautiful illustrations and decorative engravings, this edition includes a map of Eretz Yisroel showing the territories of the Shevatim. The map was printed together with the Haggadah and was modeled after the celebrated map engraved by Rabbi Avraham ben Yaakov HaGer for the famed Amsterdam Haggadah of 1695. Ma'aleh Beis Chorin - The First Edition Among the most influential Haggados to gain widespread acceptance throughout the Jewish world was the famed Haggadah Shel Pesach Beis Chorin, first published in Metz in 1767. Based on the celebrated illustrated Amsterdam Haggadah of 1695, it appeared with the encouragement and haskamah of the Sha'agas Aryeh, who praised the publisher, Rabbi Moshe May, with the words: ”Moshe alah l'marom b'maalos Beis Chorin...” Its carefully selected peirushim, magnificent engravings, and accompanying map tracing the journey of Yidden from Mitzrayim earned the Haggadah enduring popularity. Over the years, numerous editions were printed following its format and design. Additional editions bearing the title Ma'aleh Beis Chorin appeared in subsequent years, following the expiration of the twelve-year printing privilege customarily granted to the original publisher, including editions printed in Lemberg, Dyhernfurth, Vienna, Amsterdam, and elsewhere. Presented here is the first edition in which the Haggadah appeared under the title Ma'aleh Beis Chorin, the name by which it became known for generations.
