In the teshuvah before us, the Chazon Ish goes out of his way to explain the sugya. He did not suffice with writing his explanation alone, but actually drew the layout of the fields in his own ksav yad , so that the entire sugya should be understood correctly. The explanations before us were later printed in the Chazon Ish on Hilchos Kilayim , and the diagram appearing here was reproduced there as well. However, it was redrawn for print and does not preserve the original appearance of the Chazon Ish's own handwritten sketch—as presented here for the first time. It is well known that the Chazon Ish would occasionally draw diagrams to clarify difficult subjects. A well-known example is a letter he wrote to a physician, in which he sketched the structure of the brain and other internal organs of the human body. Presented here is an original halachic sketch by the Chazon Ish in the area of mitzvos ha'teluyos ba'Aretz , a subject especially beloved to him.
