”A Year of Life and Peace, Brachah and Hatzlachah in All Your Endeavors” – An Entirely Autograph Letter of Brachos from Maran the Chafetz Chaim – Elul 1926 Warm letter filled with heartfelt brachos for the coming year, entirely in the hand of Maran Hagaon HaKadosh Rabbeinu Yisrael Meir HaKohen of Radin, the Chafetz Chaim, addressed to his devoted friend and communal leader Rabbi Dovid Potash. Written in Elul, 1926, and signed in full by the Chafetz Chaim. The letter reads: ”...To my esteemed and distinguished friend... who truly pursues tzedakah and chessed... As the year draws to a close, I extend my brachah that Hashem should grant you a year of life and peace, brachah and hatzlachah in all your endeavors, and that your eyes should behold the yeshuah of Klal Yisroel and the raising of the banner of Torah, speedily in our days . This is my heartfelt wish, and the blessing of your friend, wishing you a kesivah va'chasimah tovah, Yisrael Meir HaKohen of Radin.” • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • By the time this letter was written, in the closing months of 1926, the Chafetz Chaim was already in his advanced years. During this period, he rarely wrote letters in his own hand, generally relying on his attendants and gabba'im to write for him, often adding only his signature. Presented here, however, is an entire letter written in the Chafetz Chaim's own ksav yad, apparently penned as a special expression of appreciation and hakaras hatov to Rabbi Dovid Potash, who stood faithfully at his side in his many holy endeavors. A beautiful expression of the Chafetz Chaim's heartfelt brachos— and an exceptional example of his hakaras hatov!
