The Saraf HaEloki Rabbi Moshe of Kobrin ZYA”A - Extraordinary Letter of Brochos, Entirely in His Ksav Yad Kodsho Remarkable letter, overflowing with exceptional brochos for every area of life, from the Saraf HaEloki, the gaon hakadosh Rabbi Moshe of Kobrin ZYA”A. Entirely in his ksav yad kodsho and bearing his signature. Addressed in honor of a forthcoming wedding, the letter contains an abundance of heartfelt blessings for the mechutonim, the chosson, and their descendants. Alongside his brochos, Rabbeinu apologizes for his inability to attend the simchah due to his weakened condition: ”...I have become very weak, and both walking and speaking are difficult for me. Nevertheless, I strengthen myself greatly so that others should not perceive my condition, and Hashem shall be my help...” He assures the family that although he cannot be present physically, his heart and thoughts will accompany them in their rejoicing: ”...Believe that my heart and mind will be with you in your simchah from here, and that is even better than physical closeness...” He further exhorts the young couple to live together in peace and harmony, never recalling hurtful words, but rather accepting one another with joy and serenity. The letter concludes with an extraordinary outpouring of brochos: ”...May Hashem draw His mercy upon them and protect them from all tzoros, shelter them beneath the shadow of His wings, and bless, sustain, and uphold them all the days of their lives with abundant goodness and brochoh, in ruchniyus and gashmiyus, for them, their children, and their descendants forever...” This celebrated letter became renowned among Slonimer chassidim and the heirs of the Kobriner tradition, and has been printed in several works, among them Mesos Dodim (p. 6), Rinah V'Yeshuah – Oholei Tzaddikim (published by Slonim Chassidus, p. 67), and Imrei Moshe (p. 189). The Saraf HaEloki, the gaon hakadosh Rabbi Moshe Paliier of Kobrin (1784–1858), was one of the outstanding tzaddikim of his generation and an extraordinary ohev Yisroel. A talmid of the gaon hakadosh Rabbi Mordechai of Lechovitch ZYA”A, he was described by his Rebbe as one who constantly found new ways to fulfill ”B'chol derochecha do'eihu.” He was renowned for his fiery tefillos and ascetic avodah. Among his foremost talmidim was the Baal Yesod HaAvodah of Slonim ZYA”A, who testified regarding his Rebbe that ”even malachim and serafim could not fathom his greatness.” Since it was inscribed upon the ohel of Rabbeinu that one should not exaggerate his praises, but that ”everyone may say of me that I was an ohev Yisroel, ” we have refrained from elaborating further on the greatness of this exalted tzaddik. Letters from the gaon hakadosh Rabbi Moshe of Kobrin are exceedingly rare, and a remarkable letter such as the present one, overflowing with extraordinary brochos, is virtually unparalleled.
