The Munkács Dynasty – ”May You Be Blessed with Abundant Good” – Complete Autograph Recommendation of the Shem Shlomo of Munkács, with His Signature and Seal – 1887 Complete autograph letter of recommendation from Rabbi Shlomo Spira, the Shem Shlomo of Munkács, written on 2 Rosh Chodesh Tammuz, 1887, together with his autograph signature and official seal. Written at the head of a charity collection register on behalf of the Kuppas Aniyei Eretz Yisroel. A Charity Register from Munkács It was customary in those days for emissaries of the charitable funds supporting the poor of Eretz Yisroel to travel from city to city carrying recommendation sheets attesting to the authenticity of their mission. Upon arriving in a community, they would first present themselves to the local Rav, who, after satisfying himself of the legitimacy of their mission, would write a letter of recommendation. The community leaders would then assist in collecting donations, recording the contribution of each donor on the very same sheet as a permanent record. Before us is one such collection register from the city of Munkács.  At the top of the sheet appears a complete autograph letter of recommendation written by the Shem Shlomo, together with his autograph signature and official seal. Following the recommendation are recorded the personal donation of the Shem Shlomo , the contributions of the kehillah and the Chevra Kadisha, and thereafter the donations of many of the city's distinguished residents, whose names remain well known to this day. On the reverse are recorded the contributions of the neighboring community of Beregszász , concluding with the autograph signature and official seal of the city's dayan, Rabbi Eliezer Zucker ZT”L
