A Talmid of the Vilna Gaon Who Became a Chossid – Toldos Aharon – First Edition – Berdichev, 1817 Toldos Aharon , on the weekly parshiyos, combining explanations on the Torah, words of hisorerus in avodas Hashem, and teachings heard from his rebbi, the Kedushas Levi , according to the derech of Kabbalah and Chassidus. The Torah contained in this sefer was delivered by the author while serving as Rav of Zhitomir between 1798 and 1801 . The sefer is adorned with approbations from three of the leading tzaddikim of the generation—the Ohev Yisroel of Apta , the Maggid of Chernobyl, and Rabbi Yisroel of Pikov —all of whom refer to the author with the remarkable title: ”...Butzina Kadisha, Ish Elokim...” Rabbi Aharon of Zhitomir, author of Toldos Aharon (d. 1816), was among the early giants of Chassidus. In his youth he was a talmid of the Vilna Gaon . Later, when the Kedushas Levi served as Rav of Zelichov, Rabbi Aharon came to learn under him, became one of his foremost talmidim, and, upon the Kedushas Levi's recommendation, was appointed Av Beis Din of Zhitomir following the passing of the Or HaMeir. The Kedushas Levi repeatedly cautioned the people of Zhitomir to show Rabbi Aharon the greatest respect because of his extraordinary greatness and holiness.
