It was particularly beloved by the Satmar Rebbe זי”ע, who consulted this edition frequently, especially the commentary of Rav Avraham Ibn Yachya on Sefer Daniel. Originally printed in Bologna in 1538, it appeared for only the second time in the present edition, and it was this very edition that the Rebbe used regularly. He cited it on numerous occasions and developed many of his own insights upon its teachings. It is well known that on Yom Kippur night of 1961 (see Divrei Yoel, os 32), the Rebbe, weeping bitterly, quoted the words of the Ibn Yachya that toward the end of the sixth millennium, around the year 5700, the time of the Geulah and the coming of Mashiach would arrive. Afterwards, several talmidei chachamim came to the Rebbe's home wishing to see the passage inside. The Rebbe opened this very edition and showed them the words of the Ibn Yachya within. He returned to this theme during his famous Seudah Shelishis on Parshas Naso, 1967, crying out amid torrents of tears: ”We are already near the end of the sixth millennium. I have already repeated what the Ibn Yachya says (Daniel, chapter 9), that the last three hundred years were given to the Jewish people as the days of Mashiach—perhaps earlier, but certainly by then. Alas, twenty-seven years of those final three hundred years have already passed! How much longer? How much longer? May the Ribbono Shel Olam have mercy upon His people and His land, and may we be helped speedily from every tzarah and distress.” • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • Rav Moshe Frankfurter (1672–1762), author of the first Be'er Heitev on Choshen Mishpat, served as a dayan in Frankfurt and devoted his life to publishing Torah sefarim. Among his many accomplishments was this magnificent edition of the Tanach, Kehillos Moshe, enriched with numerous classic commentaries. He later published the first Be'er Heitev on Choshen Mishpat, a work that achieved enormous popularity and became a standard sefer in the Torah world. One of the finest and most comprehensive editions of the Mikra'os Gedolos printed in the early era of Hebrew printing.
