Shev Yaakov – First Edition – Frankfurt am Main, 1742 – Copy of the Maharam Barbi and the Geonim of Pressburg First edition of Shev Yaakov, responsa in two parts by the renowned gaon Rabbi Yaakov Poppers Katz , Av Beis Din of Frankfurt am Main, printed in Frankfurt am Main, 1742. On the title page appear the signatures of the illustrious gaon Rabbi Meir Barbi , Av Beis Din of Pressburg, foremost talmid of the author: ”Kanisi mei-honi l'kvod Tzuri v'Koni... Meir Barbi...” ”Kanisi LaHashem Tzevakos... Meir Barbi...” The volume contains two manuscript glosses , apparently in his hand. Copy of the Maharam Barbi – Talmid Muvhak of the Author Additional signature on the title page of Rabbi Azriel Brilin , among the distinguished rabbanim of Pressburg during the era of the Chasam Sofer. In his hesped, the Chasam Sofer referred to him as: ”Pe'er Kehilaseinu, Atarteinu...” On the front flyleaf appears another ownership inscription: ”Shayach l'hakatzin haravani... R' Kalman Segal...” also among the prominent chachmei Pressburg, and listed among the subscribers to Chayei Olam together with the Chasam Sofer. A remarkable Pressburg provenance copy, passing from the author's foremost talmid, the Maharam Barbi, through successive generations of Pressburg geonim — a living chain of mesoras haTorah. The illustrious Rabbi Meir Barbi (1725–1789) was among the leading geonim of his generation, Av Beis Din and Rosh Yeshivah of Pressburg, and talmid muvhak of the author. Among his talmidim were some of the foremost rabbanim of the next generation, including the Maharam Bennet, Rabbi Daniel Prossnitz, Rabbi Yehudah Leib Margolios , author of Pri Tevuah , and Rabbi Dovid Deutsch , author of Ohel Dovid. In his haskamah to Chiddushei Maharam Barbi, the Noda BiYehudah wrote of him: ”Hai gavra rabba, gadol merabban shemo...”
