The Selichos of Maran Rav Chaim Kanievsky zt”l – With His Handwritten Glosses! Seder Selichos Kodesh Hillulim , with supplement, according to the Litvish minhag. Levin-Epstein Press, Jerusalem, 1965. The personal Selichos of Maran Rav Chaim Kanievsky zt”l, from which he poured out his heart before the Ribbono Shel Olam throughout the Yamim Nora'im , beginning at the age of thirty-six and continuing for many years. His autograph signature appears on the leaf preceding the title page, and throughout the volume he entered several handwritten corrections and glosses to the text of the Selichos, reflecting the extraordinary precision with which he followed every word of the nusach. The siddur later passed into the hands of his righteous wife, Rebbetzin Batsheva Kanievsky a”h, who likewise used it for her tefillos over many years. At the end of the volume appears a handwritten certification by his son, Rav Yitzchak Shaul Kanievsky shlit”a: ”This Selichos was used by my revered father, Maran shlit”a, during his younger years for many years, and he also wrote glosses in it. Afterwards, my saintly mother, the Rebbetzin a”h, davened from it. May all our tefillos be accepted favorably before the Adon Kol. — Yitzchak Shaul Kanievsky.” It was well known that Rav Chaim arose before dawn throughout the Yemei HaRachamim to recite Selichos with the tzibbur. He was meticulous never to omit even a single passage of the established nusach, even in places where communities customarily abbreviated the Selichos because of a chassan, maintaining that such omissions were incorrect according to the halachah. Now, during the Yemei HaRachamim and Selichos and the gates of mercy stand open to all who seek Him, there can hardly be a greater opportunity than to acquire this precious volume. Fortunate is the one who will merit to recite this year's Selichos from the very same sefer from which Maran Rav Chaim Kanievsky zt”l poured out his heart before his Creator for so many years, and which accompanied him in his avodas Hashem throughout Elul and the days of Selichos!
