Stoneware Dairy Mixing Bowl w/ Wide Collar Rim - This large American utilitarian stoneware mixing bowl, frequently used as a bread dough or milk bowl in farmhouse settings, features a deep body that tapers toward a flat, circular base. The vessel is distinguished by a wide, straight-sided collar rim. The piece is finished in a creamy-white glaze. The underside of the base features a hand-incised number 2, denoting a two-gallon capacity. Below the capacity mark are two irregular, overlapping incised lines forming incomplete circular or heart-like shapes that do not form a legible maker's mark. This bowl is representative of utilitarian stoneware produced in the Midwestern United States during the late 19th or early 20th century.
