Bidspirit auction | A Collection of Seven Antique

A Collection of Seven Antique Wood-Mounted Letterpress Printing Blocks - This collection consists of seven wood-mounted letterpress printing blocks, typically used for agricultural catalogs and newspaper advertisements between circa 1890 and 1920. The blocks are constructed of copper-faced electrotype plates mounted on wooden bases. Included in the set is a large L-shaped block advertising Ruberoid roofing, featuring an illustration of a farmer and barns with text reading: Before you put a new roof on that old barn - see us / Let us tell you how much we can save you by using. A vertical section of this block displays the Ruberoid logo and the words Fully Guaranteed. One rectangular block depicts a horse-drawn harvester marked McCormick. Another block illustrates a mechanical seeder with a hopper labeled Superior Drill. The remaining four blocks include two depictions of sulky plows and two close-up mechanical studies of geared harvesting machinery. All text and imagery are etched in reverse to facilitate correct orientation during the printing process.
