Russian Khokhloma Woodenware & Japanese Ceramics - This assortment of five items consists of traditional Russian folk art and Japanese novelty ceramics. Included are two pieces of Russian Khokhloma woodenware: a ladle and a matching cup. Both items are hand-painted with characteristic red berries and golden-yellow leaves against a black ground. The ladle features a long, straight handle terminating in a hook, while the cup has a gold-tone interior and upper rim. The lot also includes three Japanese ceramic items. Among these are a pair of novelty salt and pepper shakers modeled as human heads wearing red mushroom-patterned teapot-style hats with wire bail handles. The shakers are marked with P and S on the lids, and one retains a silver-tone foil Japan label on the underside. Completing the group is a conical ceramic wall pocket decorated in relief with an East Asian landscape featuring pagodas and mountains. The wall pocket includes a molded classical leaf border in a silver tone and an incised Japan mark on the reverse.
