Bidspirit auction | Pair Red Wing & Win
Pair Red Wing & Win Schuler Advertising Crocks - This lot features two examples of 20th-century American advertising stoneware. The first item is a Red Wing Beater Jar, constructed in a cylindrical form with a reinforced, flared rim. It features a white Bristol-type glaze accented by two horizontal cobalt blue bands. The front is stenciled in cobalt blue with the text RED WING BEATER JAR EGGS - CREAM SALAD DRESSING. The underside of the jar exhibits concentric throwing rings and significant dark carbon staining, though no impressed maker's marks are present. The second item is a Win Schuler Restaurants crock. This cylindrical vessel features a tan or buff-colored glaze with cobalt blue stenciled decorations. A stylized scrolling border runs along the top rim, while the front displays a scrolled oval cartouche containing the name Win Schuler in a gothic-style font above the word RESTAURANTS. The interior has a clean, glossy finish, and the base shows concentric rings from the manufacturing process. These items are associated with the Red Wing Union Stoneware Company of Minnesota and the historic Win Schuler restaurant chain of Michigan.
