Elgin 8-Day Brass Automobile Dashboard Clock - This antique automotive dashboard clock was manufactured by the Elgin National Watch Co. around 1925. The timepiece features a round brass bezel and housing designed for dashboard mounting. It is characterized by an elongated vertical winding and setting stem positioned at the bottom, which terminates in a knurled brass knob. The cream-colored dial displays bold black Arabic numeral hour markers and a matching outer minute track. A sub-seconds dial is situated below the 12 o'clock position, graduated from 10 to 60. The dial is printed with the maker's name ELGIN centrally above the 6 o'clock mark and features two black spade-style hands. The mechanical 8-day stem-wind movement is housed behind a removable dust cover. The movement plate is engraved with the serial number 28610938, 8 DAYS, ELGIN NATIONAL WATCH CO., and MADE IN U.S.A. Based on the serial number, the movement dates to approximately 1925. The interior of the dust cover is stamped with a script logo for Stewart and the alphanumeric code P14436, suggesting the clock was part of an instrument cluster produced by Stewart-Warner. These clocks were typically installed in high-end luxury automobiles of the 1920s, including those from manufacturers such as Packard and Lincoln.
