Hercules Powder Co. Wood Dynamite Shipping Crate - This is an authentic industrial wooden crate produced for the Hercules Powder Company, an American explosives manufacturer established in 1912. The crate is constructed from solid wood planks and features characteristic finger-jointed (box-jointed) corners designed for heavy-duty structural integrity. The exterior surfaces are finished with black stenciled industrial markings and graphics. The primary side panels are stenciled with I.C.C.-14 inside a rectangular border, followed by Hercules Powder and High Explosives Dangerous. One end panel displays the weight and stick size specifications: 50 LB. 1 1/4 X 8, along with Hercules Extra Dynamite 40% Strength. The opposite end panel features the company logo depicting the mythological figure Hercules with a club. The marking I.C.C.-14 refers to the Interstate Commerce Commission regulatory specifications for high explosives shipping containers from the early-to-mid 20th century. An auction tag is present on the interior rim from Middlefield Antiques.
