Daniel Scotten & Co. Hiawatha Lithographed Tin - An antique rectangular hinged-lid tobacco tin for Hiawatha Flake Cut Tobacco. The tin features a bright yellow lithographed ground. The lid is decorated with a central illustration of a standing Indigenous American figure holding a bow, with a quiver of arrows visible. The background scene includes a canoe on a shoreline and a group of teepees in the distance. The graphics are enclosed within a red scrollwork border. Stylized text on the lid reads HIAWATHA, FLAKE-CUT in a diagonal banner, and TOBACCO. The sides of the tin repeat the Hiawatha branding and archer graphic. The rear flange of the lid is printed with GINNA & CO N.Y. and a partial manufacturer name DANIEL SCOTTEN & CO is visible on one end. The underside of the base features an embossed circular mark for GINNA & CO CANS N.Y. The interior retains some of its original golden-toned lacquer on the lid underside.
