Bidspirit auction | Victorian Style Copper & Brass

Victorian Style Copper & Brass Bucket & Scuttle - This lot comprises two pieces of copper and brass hearthware, including a cylindrical log bucket and a helmet-shaped coal scuttle. Both items are characteristic of Victorian era fireplace accessories from the late 19th to early 20th century. The cylindrical storage vessel is constructed from sheet copper with a visible vertical lap seam and a rolled rim. It is fitted with two cast brass handles featuring scrolling and shell-inspired motifs, attached to the body with copper rivets. The interior of the bucket displays evidence of significant prior use and oxidation. The second item is a helmet-shaped coal scuttle, or coal hod, featuring a hammered or planished texture on the lower half of the body. It includes a large overhead brass bail handle and a secondary cast brass handle at the rear designed for tilting and pouring. The scuttle is supported by a flared, circular brass footed base. No maker marks are visible on either piece.
