Bidspirit auction | Trio Chalkware Wall Hanging String

Trio Chalkware Wall Hanging String Holders - This lot features three mid-20th-century decorative wall-hanging string holders constructed from cast plaster, a material traditionally referred to as chalkware. Each piece is finished with cold-painted pigments. These items were designed to hold a ball of twine in the hollowed-out reverse, with the string intended to be fed through an opening in the design. The first holder depicts a child's face with golden-orange hair and blue eyes, wearing a red cap with black polka dots. The second holder is a caricature of a man with a dark mustache wearing a wide-brimmed yellow sombrero featuring a black, yellow, and red geometric border. The third holder is modeled as a large red and yellow apple set against a background of textured green leaves with a cluster of fruit at the base. The reverse of the man in the sombrero retains a yellow adhesive label reading String Holder and a white paper tag marked String Holder H-2001A. The reverse of the apple holder includes a yellow and white label reading String Holder Hanging (A) 222.
