Meriden Britannia Co Silver Plate Lidded Pitcher - An American late Victorian quadruple silver-plated lidded pitcher manufactured by the Meriden Britannia Company of Meriden, Connecticut. The vessel is of tapered cylindrical form, featuring a hinged lid topped with a tiered, turned finial. The exterior is embellished with multiple bands of cast ornamentation, including a repeating scroll and foliate pattern near the rim and a wide, ornate band of scrolling acanthus and floral motifs around the base. The spout is decorated with a cast shell-form bracket, while the ornate handle is cast with decorative joints and a thumb-rest. The front of the pitcher displays a hand-engraved Aesthetic Movement-style rectangular cartouche inscribed Miss Eaton in cursive script, flanked by stylized floral and leaf sprays. The underside of the base features two circular stamps and an incised number. The top circular mark contains the words MERIDEN COMPANY arranged around a central shield logo. The bottom circular mark is stamped QUADRUPLE PLATE. The pattern or catalog number 193 is stamped to the left of these marks.
