Van Briggle Ming Blue Native Corn Grinder Figurine - This art pottery figurine by Van Briggle depicts a kneeling Native American woman grinding corn on a metate. The piece is constructed from ceramic earthenware and finished in a matte turquoise blue-green glaze known as Ming Blue. The figure is modeled in a kneeling position with hair styled in two long braids, leaning over a central grinding stone. A grouping of three corn cobs is integrated into the design on the side of the grinding basin. The underside of the base features hand-incised markings including Van Briggle, Spgs., Colo., and Colo. along with a central circular firing vent. The official Van Briggle logo, consisting of two intertwined letters A within a rectangular border, is incised on the lower back edge of the base. The base also contains hand-incised initials RL and a small crescent-shaped mark, likely identifying the finisher.
