Attrib. Flaccus American Hen Milk Glass Dish - This is a late 19th-century milk glass covered dish known as The American Hen. The lid features a detailed mold of an American eagle with outstretched wings perched atop a nest. Embossed on the eggs nestled under the eagle are the names PORTO RICO, CUBA, and PHILIPPINES, which reference United States territorial acquisitions following the Spanish-American War. The oval base is designed with a basketweave texture and features a raised ribbon banner on both sides with the text THE AMERICAN HEN. The underside of the base features the embossed capital letters PAT APPLIED FOR. The piece is composed of opaque white milk glass.
