Navajo-Style Yei Pictorial Wool Wall Hanging - A hand-woven wool pictorial textile wall hanging created in the Navajo Yei style. The central composition features a Yei figure, a representation of a deity or holy person, depicted with a rectangular head and an elongated blue U-shaped body. The figure holds a stylized staff or corn plant in one hand. To the right of the figure?s head is a secondary icon resembling a basket or ritual vessel with two protruding elements, possibly feathers or sticks. The central field is a mottled dusty rose or pink wool, bordered on either side by vertical polychrome bands consisting of black, green, blue, yellow, and orange stripes. The textile is suspended from a light-colored wooden rod, possibly bamboo, featuring dark, burnt-in decorative zigzag lines. It is attached to the rod by two hand-twisted pink yarn loops at the upper corners. This style of weaving is characteristic of regional traditions in the American Southwest and is also frequently produced in Mexico as Zapotec interpretations of traditional Din? iconography.
