Pair 1785 Beaver Medal & 1776 8 Reales Necklaces - This lot consists of two necklaces featuring historical pendants and glass trade beads. The first pendant is a commemorative medal for the Beaver Club of Montreal. The obverse depicts a crew in a canoe under the legend FORTITUDE IN DISTRESS. The reverse is inscribed BEAVER CLUB INSTITUTED MONTREAL 1785 around the perimeter, with INDUSTRY & PERSEVERANCE above a central image of a beaver. The medal is composed of a brass-tone base metal. The second pendant is a Spanish Colonial silver 8 Reales coin, KM 106.2, dated 1776. The obverse features the draped bust of Charles III facing right with the legend CAROLUS III . DEI . GRATIA . 1776 . The reverse displays the crowned Spanish coat of arms flanked by the Pillars of Hercules with the legend HISPAN . ET IND . REX . M . 8R . F . M . indicating the Mexico City mint and assayer initials FM. The coin is holed for suspension. The necklaces are constructed with various glass trade beads. One strand incorporates yellow cylindrical beads with black and white horizontal bands. The second strand features yellow glass eye beads with blue spots and turquoise-colored spherical glass spacers.
