American Cobalt Salt-Glazed Stoneware Butter Pot - This is a low, cylindrical stoneware crock, traditionally known as a butter pot or cake crock. It features a slightly flared, rounded rim and a flat, unglazed base. The exterior is finished with a traditional salt-glazed orange peel texture and is decorated with hand-painted cobalt blue slip motifs. The decoration consists of alternating stylized fruit and vegetable designs, specifically appearing to be apples with leaves and tapered vegetables resembling carrots or parsnips. The interior is coated with a dark brown slip glaze, likely of the Albany type. The stoneware body exhibits characteristic iron spotting and kiln-firing artifacts throughout. No maker marks, capacity stamps, or other identifying inscriptions were observed on the base or exterior of the vessel.
