American Grandmother's Flower Garden Cotton Quilt - 68 x 76 A traditional hand-pieced and hand-quilted cotton patchwork quilt in the Grandmother's Flower Garden pattern, dating to the mid-20th century. The quilt top features numerous small hexagons arranged into floral motifs with contrasting centers and concentric rings. It incorporates a variety of period printed fabrics including calicoes, florals, polka dots, and shirting prints in shades of red, blue, purple, and cream. The floral motifs are set against a solid red ground with a narrow tan binding. The entire piece is hand-quilted in a concentric fan or clamshell design. The reverse side features a light-colored backing with a visible inscription and stamp. One corner of the reverse is inscribed in dark ink with the name BERNICE. Centrally located on the reverse are remnants of an indigo blue ink stamp, identifying the use of recycled feed or flour sacks; visible characters include A, S, and H on the upper line and L on the lower line.
