Bidspirit auction | Antique Sawtooth Diamond Pattern Calico
Antique Sawtooth Diamond Pattern Calico Quilt - 84 x 84 This bed quilt is hand-pieced and hand-quilted, featuring a large-scale center diamond-in-the-square layout with distinctive sawtooth or serrated borders. The front is constructed from two primary cotton calico fabrics: a salmon or madder pink fabric with a small-scale white foliage sprig print and a dark green or black fabric featuring a dense repeating leaf or feather pattern. The hand-quilting is executed in a diamond grid and parallel line pattern across the surface. The quilt is finished with a pink calico binding decorated with small red dots. The backing consists of a single-piece brown cotton fabric printed with a small orange, black, and white C-scroll or gear-like motif over vertical dashed lines. The use of these specific calico prints and the sawtooth border technique are characteristic of late 19th to early 20th-century American quilt-making.
