1960s-70s Patchwork Quilt Top w/ Purple Sashing - 80 x 86 This is an unfinished handmade patchwork quilt top dating from the mid-to-late 20th century. The piece features a scrap or utility style construction utilizing a string-pieced triangle pattern. The triangular patches are composed of assorted fabric strips in various prints including ginghams, checks, stripes, florals, and 1970s-era geometric zig-zags. These colorful blocks are separated by wide sashing of a solid purple fabric. The materials appear to be a mixture of cotton and polyester/cotton blends characteristic of the era. A strip of burgundy knit fabric is machine-stitched along one edge, likely intended as a border or binding. The reverse of the top reveals machine-stitched construction with raw, unfinished seam allowances and various thread tails. This item consists of the top layer only and does not include batting or backing.
