Hand-Quilted Basket Scrap Quilt w/ Feed Sack - 72 x 80 This is a mid-20th century American utility scrap quilt, hand-pieced and hand-quilted. The quilt top features a series of Basket pattern blocks arranged in horizontal rows, separated by vertical sashing. The blocks are constructed from a wide variety of period-correct cotton fabrics including floral prints, solids, and ginghams. The entire piece is hand-quilted using a horizontal channel pattern. The reverse side of the quilt is constructed from repurposed white cotton flour or feed sacks, a common practice for resourcefulness during the Depression and post-Depression eras. Original commercial printing is visible on the backing material. One section features the brand name HARVEST BOY in red block letters. Above this are the blue printed numbers 368 I 2. Additional smaller blue text identifies the source as ... Mills, Inc. of MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA. Harvest Boy was a known flour brand produced in the Minneapolis area during this period.
