Mid-20th C. Double-Sided Cotton Patchwork Quilt - 72 x 84 This is a vintage handmade American utility quilt, constructed from various cotton and cotton-blend fabric scraps dating from approximately the 1930s to the 1950s. The piece features a double-sided pieced design. The front is a string quilt pattern, characterized by irregular strips or strings of fabric sewn onto a foundation and arranged into uniform square blocks that form a diagonal grid. The fabrics include a variety of mid-century prints such as florals, ginghams, stripes, and solid colors. The reverse side is constructed from larger rectangular and square blocks, prominently featuring a navy-and-white striped fabric alongside a large-scale red, blue, and green floral print and light blue panels. The entire piece is hand-quilted with a visible running stitch throughout.
