Mid-20th C. American Folk Art Indian Head Quilt - 70 x 72 An American folk art quilt featuring sixteen blocks arranged in a four-by-four grid. Each block displays a profile of a figure in a feathered headdress, a motif frequently utilized in mid-century textile crafts. The faces are constructed from solid red cotton fabric with hand-embroidered facial features in pink and black thread. The headdresses are pieced together from a variety of patterned scrap fabrics including stripes, checks, florals, and paisley. Decorative elements include yellow and pink ric-rac trim and black blanket stitching around the perimeter of the headdress segments. The white cotton ground is hand-quilted with diagonal rows of running stitches. The reverse side of the quilt is finished with a two-tone floral paisley and calico print in shades of pink, red, and purple. The quilt top is composed of multiple joined white fabric panels.
