Bidspirit auction | WWII United States Named Purple
WWII United States Named Purple Heart Medal in Presentation Case with Photograph - This lot features a World War II-era United States Purple Heart medal officially engraved to Ralph M. Adams. The medal obverse consists of a heart-shaped medal with a purple enameled center featuring a gold-colored profile bust of George Washington. The top of the medal depicts the Washington family coat of arms with three stars over two horizontal bars, flanked by green laurel sprigs. The reverse features the raised-letter inscription FOR MILITARY MERIT. Below this, the name RALPH M. ADAMS is machine-engraved in block letters, a style consistent with World War II government-issued posthumous awards. The medal is suspended from its original purple silk moire ribbon with white edge stripes, mounted on a period-correct wrap-around style brooch pin. The item is housed in its original black leatherette presentation case with a gold-leaf decorative border and a yellow velvet and satin interior. Included in the case is a matching purple and white service ribbon bar. The lot is accompanied by a black and white portrait photograph of a young man, presumed to be the recipient, Ralph M. Adams.
