A World War II U.S. Army Air Forces and Airborne Memorial Grouping for First Lieutenant Herman W. - A grouping of United States military insignia and personal ephemera associated with First Lieutenant Herman W. Keppen. The lot is identified by an original newspaper obituary clipping with a photograph of Lt. Keppen, which details his service as a B-17 Flying Fortress pilot and his death in a training crash near Brooksville, Florida, in October 1943. Metal insignia includes a brass U.S. collar disk with a dual-post clutch-back and a brass Field Artillery branch insignia disk featuring crossed cannons with a screw-back nut. Cloth insignia consists of an embroidered circular airborne-glider cap patch with a white parachute on a red field and a red felt airborne background oval with a yellow embroidered border, a type used by parachute field artillery units. The grouping also contains a Purple Heart ribbon bar and a fragmentary United States one-dollar Silver Certificate, Series 1935 C, serial number M 54728982 D.
