WWII German Waffen-SS Machine-Embroidered Breast Eagle with 1944 Hamburg Provenance - This lot features a World War II German Waffen-SS machine-embroidered breast eagle, known as a Hoheitsabzeichen. The insignia is constructed with silver-gray rayon thread machine-embroidered onto a dark black wool or felt backing. The design follows the specific Waffen-SS pattern, characterized by an eagle with right-facing head and straight, outspread wings, clutching a wreathed swastika. This distinguishes it from the drooping-wing pattern used by the Heer (Army). The insignia is mounted on a black display card that bears a handwritten inscription in white ink: When We Raided a German Warehouse In Hamburgh Germany. 1944. The spelling of Hamburgh reflects a period-typical English variation. The eagle is secured to the card by four paper corner mounts. Such items were frequently collected as war trophies by Allied personnel from captured supply depots and warehouses.
