WWII German Luftwaffe Ground Assault Badge - This is a World War II German Luftwaffe Ground Assault Badge, known as the Erdkampfabzeichen der Luftwaffe. The design features an oval wreath of oak leaves tied with a ribbon at the base. Centered within the wreath is a stylized cloud from which a large lightning bolt strikes downward toward the bottom. At the top of the wreath is a Luftwaffe-style eagle in flight clutching a swastika. The badge is of single-piece, solid-back construction, likely manufactured from a zinc-based alloy commonly referred to as Kriegsmetall. The reverse is flat and plain, featuring a soldered hinge, a vertical needle pin, and a C-style wire catch. No manufacturer marks or RZM numbers are visible on the reverse. This award was instituted on March 31, 1942, to recognize Luftwaffe personnel who participated in three ground combat engagements on three separate days.
