19th C. American Painted Splint Basket - 18x10x8.5 This rectangular hand-woven utility basket is crafted from wood splints utilizing a wide over-under weave pattern. The body of the basket is finished in green paint, while the reinforced double-banded rim and fixed arched overhead handle feature a contrasting reddish-brown paint. The rim bands are secured with metal staples. The flat base is fitted with two parallel wooden runners to provide stability and protection from surface wear.The construction techniques and materials are consistent with 19th-century American basketry.
