Bidspirit auction | Westmoreland Amethyst Slag Hen on

Westmoreland Amethyst Slag Hen on Nest - miniature This vintage hen-on-nest covered dish is crafted from amethyst slag glass, also known as marble glass. The two-piece set consists of a lid molded in the form of a seated hen and a corresponding oval base. The glass composition features an opaque, variegated pattern with a palette of deep purple, opaque white, and distinct streaks of light blue. The lid is detailed with molded feather textures, a smooth curved head, and an upright tail. The base features a fluted basketweave textured bottom and a wide, ruffled scalloped rim designed to secure the lid. While this piece is unmarked, the form, texture, and slag glass coloration are characteristic of mid-20th-century production by the Westmoreland Glass Company.
