Pair 19th C. Sporting & Pastoral Oils - 20 in long A pair of oil paintings executed on oval metal panels, possibly copper or brass. The subjects are characteristic of nineteenth-century European sporting and pastoral art. One painting features a hunting dog holding a mallard duck in its mouth within a landscape setting. The second painting depicts several sheep in a stable interior, notably including an artist palette, brushes, and a miniature oil study of a lamb in the foreground. Both works utilize detailed brushwork to render the textures of fur, wool, and straw. The paintings are housed in matching gold-toned oval frames. The reverse of the panels shows darkened, aged metal with wire and chain hanging hardware. No signatures or inscriptions are visible on the front or the back of the works.
